RECIPE FOR A MERRY CHRISTMAS!
Having trouble getting into the Christmas spirit? Weighed down with gift-giving decisions? Why is it that a supposedly joyous holiday season - that should be so looked forward to - is (for some of us) on par with approaching the dreaded income tax season? I can sum it up in three words – money, time, and energy!

How often do we say, “I can’t afford it”; “I don’t have time”; or “I don’t feel like it”? Here’s a test to see if your heart is attuned to the true meaning of Christmas. During this time of the year, the next time you feel anxiety over one of those three phrases, take a deep breath, and ask yourself “what is the reason for the season?” Repeat it three or four times if necessary to let it sink in. While doing so, think of some stark reality like the soldiers at war, or someone critically ill in the hospital, or a grieving family that just lost a loved one. Inhale; exhale!

Did you do it? Now what was that thing you were thinking about that seemed so troublesome?

Relax! It’s not that big a deal! Do what you can. If you can’t afford it, don’t buy it! If you don’t have the time, or don’t feel like it, don’t obligate yourself grudgingly! The best gift you can give to anyone is the gift that has your heart in it. Whether it be a toy; a friendly smile; an unexpected visit or phone call; whatever gesture you make in the right spirit will make for a merrier Christmas! Peace, love, and goodwill towards one another!
