Put an End To the Nonsense!

I do not condone any form of terrorism. I think it is appalling and cowardly of those who set out to, and carry out acts of terrorism. News of the shipments of manipulated toner cartridges that originated out of the Republic of Yemen put the whole world on alert. Thanks to a tip from Saudi Arabian Intelligence – who provided tracking numbers of the shipments – mayhem was averted. The release of the suspected powerful explosive PETN, intended for destruction, would have been imminent. This incident gave us some real “Breaking News”.

Sadly however, a lot of the so-called breaking news of late has been about comments either from one politician mudslinging another, an update on some spoiled Hollywood brat, or an inappropriate remark from some television or radio talk show personality. Enough of that stuff!

Maybe this is the “bomb” that needed to be dropped in the middle aisle of the congressional seats to put aside differences and focus on the issues that seriously threaten us all. I’ve heard that in the absence of a battle, soldiers in bunkers will turn on one another. When will our leaders realize that we’re being bombarded by terrorist threats, illegal immigration, unemployment, under-education, drug wars, and many other serious issues? Yet they seem to remain oblivious, and continue to fight among themselves.

President Obama announced that the toner incident is a “credible terrorist threat”. He has also announced a “credible threat” on some of the other aforementioned issues, but is there a body of one that’s listening? How long will Congress remain divided against itself? It reminds me of classroom children out of order. There was a time when teachers were allowed to use some degree of corporal punishment exacting a ruler across the hand, or a paddle to the backside. Those threats worked very effectively to keep the class focused. What is it going to take to get our politicians in line?

Before it’s too late, I’d like to offer to our leaders my own acronym for PETN: Put an End To the Nonsense! Maybe you can come up with one too.
