A 911 CALL TO ALL!!
Which is the lesser of two evils – to have a health care reform plan that may seem less than perfect, or to have no health care reform plan at all, leaving millions to continue on without basic medical coverage? If there is an evil on both sides of the health care reform debate, wisdom tells us that it is better to choose the lesser of the two. We are on the brink of a major breakthrough that has never been done in this country before – health care for all citizens!
Which is the lesser of two evils – to have a black president of the United States who did more in his first one hundred days in office to create government transparency and to build trust in the American people as a whole, or to have an administration that did not accomplish that same thing during their whole two terms in office? If there is an evil on both sides of the congressional aisle, wisdom tells us that it is better to choose the lesser of the two. While America is faced with so many serious challenges, this is no time for intelligence to be bushwhacked by the stupid notion from hell that skin color matters.
Which is the lesser of two evils – to stand on the sidelines and not get involved because you feel your efforts won’t make a difference, or to jump in if only to make the slightest ripple for positive change in our society? If there is an evil in both apathy and right action that’s within your power to do, wisdom tells us that it is better to choose the lesser of the two. There will come a day when we can only wish we had the opportunity again to make a difference, so why not now?
As we approach the eighth anniversary of the tragedy of 911, I am reminded of those whose lives were reduced to just two choices. Remember the images of those who jumped to their deaths to escape the doomed twin towers? For certain, they were not thinking about the “evils” of health care reform, or the godforsaken thought of having a black man as president. I’m sure they would have given anything just to have the assurance of the basic gift of life, but they had only two choices: stay trapped and die in that hellish building, or jump to perhaps get just one last breath of fresh air. I believe those who jumped chose the lesser of the two evils.
In remembrance of all those who lost their lives at the hands of terrorists on that tragic day, let us choose wisely in the challenges that are before us today. As those victims were all in it together, so are we as a whole “united” nation, and it’s up to each one of us to make the most of what we have without all the infighting.
